Grading Policy

Allocation of Grades

  • 1. The overall subject percentage obtained will be rounded off by the individual faculty upto two decimal points. Fractions of 0.5 or more are rounded off to the next higher digit.
  • 2. It is the University policy to work out GPA by awarding relative grading on a scale of 4.00 according to distribution curve based on the performance of a particular class by the faculty. To successfully complete the degree requirement, a student must obtain a minimum CGPA of 2.00 on a scale of 4.00.
  • 3. The award of a degree to the student is based on academic performance during the course of study and professional training. On completion of the course/subject, a student may be awarded one of the following grades:-
Subject Letter Grade Grade Point Average (GPA)
A 4.00
A- 3.67
B+ 3.33
B 3.00
B- 2.67
C+ 2.33
C 2.00
C- 1.67
D 1.00
F 0.00
I Incomplete
  • (a) Fail Grade (F). Grade ‘F’ implies that the student has not been able to secure passing marks. Such a student will be given zero grade points in the course and will be required to appear for retest (within two weeks after the announcement of the result) of the subject. In addition to award of ‘F’ grade on the basis of academic failure, a student will not be allowed to appear in final exam of a subject in which his/ her attendance is less than 75% and will also be awarded ‘F’ grade in that subject. A candidate obtaining ‘F’ grade (s) in such a manner will be relegated to the junior course.
  • (b) Incomplete Grade (I). The student receiving such a grade makes up the unfinished portion of his/her course and will be given a grade ‘I’. In case the student fails to make up the course work, he/she receives a grade ‘F’ unless further extension is given by the Faculty Board of Studies. Grade ‘I’ is awarded in one of the following cases:-
  • (i) When a student misses final examination for unavoidable reason, as judged by the Head of Department/Officer Commanding of respective units. In such cases, the internal grades will stand intact, and the final examination taken when offered. To avail this concession, the student must apply within one week of missing the exam; otherwise, an ‘F’ grade shall be awarded.
  • (ii) For any lapse on part of the College/Faculty due to which the student’s complete results could not be entered in time, the student may be awarded an ‘I’ grade for the purpose of announcing the results in time. In such cases, the ‘I’ grade will be immediately replaced with earned grade on removal of the anomaly.
